Philadelphia Phillies veteran utility infielder Edmundo Sosa will play in Thursday's winner-take-all Game 3 of the National League Wild Card Series against the Atlanta Braves despite leaving Wednesday's contest with a groin injury.

Sosa will start at third base and bat seventh. He aggravated the injury on Wednesday while hustling out an infield single in the ninth inning of Philadelphia's 4-3 extra-inning win. After beating out a ground ball to shortstop, Sosa was visibly in pain and called for a pinch-runner. Derek Hill replaced him, while Bryce Harper moved from right field to first base and Alec Bohm shifted to third.

The injury had already been an issue for Sosa before Game 2. He initially tweaked his groin during Sunday's regular-season finale, but both Sosa and interim manager Don Mattingly indicated he was available for the postseason. Sosa also appeared to be running awkwardly after hitting a double in Game 1, although Mattingly again downplayed the concern afterward.

Through the first two postseason games, Sosa is 2-for-6 with one double and a 0:1 walk-to-strikeout mark.
