The Boston Red Sox dealt with a battered Roman Anthony before their MLB Playoffs elimination game. Anthony's wrist and finger ailments made it hard for him to help save the Red Sox's season Wednesday night, with the New York Yankees eliminating them. But one writer grabbed the attention of Boston fans by adding more context into the severity of his injury.
Boston Globe Red Sox insider Tim Healey provided new details on his appearance with Foul Territory Thursday. Included if Anthony should've sat a long time ago amid his MLB Injury.
“It sounds like he was never fully healed,” Healey explained. “He had dealt with troubling swings for six weeks. If we count backwards, six weeks goes back to his rehab assignment.”
So Anthony's injury should've placed him on IL. Granted, Anthony flashed at the bat while navigating through the injury. But the swings started to hurt him in late August and September, Healey adds.
“The tendon and the ligament never fully healed,” Healey said. “He kept swinging and kept playing almost everyday. Now other parts of his hand are strained as well.”
Healey became blunt about what happens next for Anthony.

Boston mustered only two runs in the two games against its longtime nemesis. New York piled the runs and reached nine in both victories.
The Red Sox will now reset plus evaluate the 2026 roster following their late playoff charge. Including resting Anthony in all likelihood.
