NBA rumors: ClutchPoints insider wonders if Raptors, Pelicans could be blockbuster trade partners this season
The Toronto Raptors made one of the biggest moves of the offseason by bringing Kawhi Leonard back from the Clippers, but they may look to make another big move later in the season to further fortify their title chances...
On the latest edition of Clutch Scoops, ClutchPoints senior NBA reporter Brett Siegel floated the possibility of the Raptors and Pelicans making a deal down the line. Siegel said the Pelicans believe they have a solid team that can contend for a playoff spot in the Western Conference, but he thinks a trade involving Dejounte Murray could materialize in the future.
“I think that they're going to be making some type of trade. I think it's going to have to involve Dejounte Murray. He's coming off that Achilles injury and came back last year. There have been teams interested in him, and we talked about last week about how there's one team in the East that is going to be a big buyer all year, and they still have pieces to make moves. It's the Toronto Raptors.
“I wonder: is there something that could potentially be done there, given the uncertainty with Emmanuel Quickley and RJ Barrett? Are their long-term futures with Toronto? Could they maybe look to flip them for guys like Dejounte Murray or Trey Murphy? Trey Murphy is a player that the Raptors have been interested in in the past. If they were to add Dejounte and Trey Murphy in Quickley and Barrett's spots, all of a sudden you have a roster that looks very much like that 2019 championship team in Toronto, where you have: a defensive-minded point guard, a guy that can create for others. A guy on the wing similar to OG Anunoby, like Trey Murphy III. Just something to consider.”
