On Saturday, South Carolina State had a phenomenal win against Furman. But heartbreaking news came out of Orangeburg following the victory. Bulldogs head coach Chennis Berry announced during Monday's MEAC Coaches' Call that he lost his mother.

He spoke about the loss on the call and said she would have wanted him to keep working.

“God is still good, man,” Berry said. “Through it all, man. You know, losing my mother, she wouldn't. She wouldn't want me to be anywhere but on this call….And I want to continue to make her proud,” Berry said. “And I just believe in doing it the right way.”

He added, “Mama's in a good place. No more pain. Mama's good and mama good. I'm good. So let's keep it rolling.”

South Carolina State's cheerleading team also wished Berry condolences during this time of loss, sharing the following social media message:
