An HBCU athletic director apologized after their team's Week 3 matchup. Dr. Alecia Shields-Gadson released a public statement apologizing to the Mississippi Valley State University community after the team's 21-6 loss to Delta State University.

In her letter, Shields-Gadson spotlighted multiple issues that persisted during the game.

“Dear Delta Devils Fans,

I am writing to you today to sincerely apologize for the lackluster game day experience during Saturday's football game.

At Mississippi Valley State University, we hold ourselves to a high standard, and this weekend we fell short of delivering the vibrant, seamless, and exciting environment that our loyal alumni, students, and community deserve. From operational delays to the overall stadium atmosphere, the experience did not reflect the true spirit of MVSU football.

Mississippi Valley State took the lead in the second quarter on a Luka Sari 52-yard field goal. Delta State ultimately broke through for a touchdown off a blocked punt. Delta State then added another touchdown in the third quarter and again in the fourth quarter to ultimately secure the victory.
