The New York Yankees are coming off another postseason elimination. The Tampa Bay Rays swept them in the ALDS, prompting many fans to demand change.

However, the Yankees extended GM Brian Cashman's contract and also brought back manager Aaron Boone.

Despite seemingly continuing with the same old, same old, Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner remains adamant about reaching the ultimate goal, winning the World Series, per Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.

“That is our mission,' Steinbrenner said. “That is our goal. Yes, we failed at the goal this year, but that is always our goal, which is why we put so much effort and resources into the roster every offseason to field a team that can accomplish that. And I certainly believe we had that team this year. It just didn't pan out.”

The Yankees haven't won a World Series since 2009. In 2024, they fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Fall Classic in 5 games. The next year, they fell to the Toronto Blue Jays in 5 games in the ALDS.

New York finished the season at 93-68 and 2nd in the American League East behind the Rays. However, they spent much of the season with Aaron Judge on the injured list. Additionally, Giancarlo Stanton experienced injuries.

Heading into the offseason, the Yankees' moves will largely center on pitching. First, they are looking to add bullpen depth to complement closer David Bednar and a backup catcher to support Austin Wells. Moreover, New York could look to shop around for pitchers Will Warren and/or Ryan Weathers.
