The New York Yankees are bringing Aaron Boone back as manager for the 2027 season. With Boone leading the way, New York has consistently reached the postseason but has yet to win a World Series. In fact, the ball club has not earned a championship since 2009. Hal Steinbrenner defended Boone on Wednesday, but the reality of the situation is that Boone's leadership has not translated to World Series victories. Boone is hoping the Yankees can “bully” their way to a Fall Classic victory sooner rather than later.

“Hopefully we are that bully and we're the best team throughout the season next year, and bully our way through the postseason,” Boone said Wednesday, via SNY Yankees. “… I believe it (the Yankees winning the World Series) can happen with me at the helm. But any answer I give in defense of that isn't gonna be a great one or satisfy people. I think I'm good at my job, I think we have a lot of the right people in the building. At the end of the day we haven't won a championship with me at the helm.

“Ultimately, that's what has to happen to satisfy certainly myself — that's why I'm doing this — but to answer those questions ultimately. Haven't been able to do it yet.”

Boone has found no shortage of regular season success. For many teams around the sport, he'd be considered a tremendous manager given how often the Yankees have reached the postseason. Since he took over the manager job in 2018, the Yankees have reached the postseason in eight out of the nine years, earned two 100-win seasons, and reached the World Series in 2024.

With all of that being said, Aaron Boone happens to manage a team that leads all of MLB with 27 total championships. A personal 790-565 regular season record isn't good enough to satisfy Yankees fans. Rather, the city of New York will look at Boone's 27-30 postseason record and zero World Series championships.

Perhaps Aaron Boone will finally help the Yankees reach their goal in 2027. Only time will tell.
