Cleveland Guardians All-Star starting pitcher Parker Messick is set to start Game 1 of the American League Division Series against the Chicago White Sox on Saturday. Messick, an American League Rookie of the Year candidate, is looking to carry his regular season success into the postseason. He will be going up against a White Sox ball club that has seen him quite a bit, however.

“There's definitely no secrets,” Messick told reporters in reference to facing the White Sox, via Mason Horodyski of News 5 Cleveland. “We've seen them four series now, it's just best stuff on best stuff… I think they're a fun team to play, very similar team to us, got a lot of young, talented players. It's going to be a lot of fun… They bring a lot of energy just like we do so I'm anticipating it being pretty fun.”

Messick had a tremendous rookie season, pitching to a sparkling 2.56 ERA across 32 outings. However, how has the 25-year-old performed against Chicago in his career? Well, it's shockingly similar to his overall 2026 season performance.

Messick has recorded a 2.56 ERA in five career starts against the Guardians' AL Central rival. Four of those starts came in 2026, with the other coming in 2025. The Cleveland southpaw is 3-1 with one no-decision in his starts against the Sox, and he's recorded 33 strikeouts in 31.2 innings of work.

One other crucial note is that Messick has worked six or more innings in four of his five appearances against Chicago, so he may be able to save the bullpen in Game 1. With that being said, Cleveland's relief core will be well-rested given the team's first-round bye.

Game 1 of the ALDS between the White Sox and Guardians is scheduled for 1 PM ET at Progressive Field in Cleveland.
