The Cleveland Guardians are moving on to the ALCS in the Major League Baseball Playoffs, after defeating the Chicago White Sox. Cleveland pitcher Gavin Williams put up some astonishing numbers with 12 strikeouts in his Game 5 outing. It helped contribute to what is a historic postseason performance so far.

“Gavin Williams' 24 strikeouts in a playoff series are the most since Gerrit Cole had 25 against the Rays in the 2019 ALDS,” Talkin' Baseball posted to X, formerly Twitter. “Curt Schilling, Mike Mussina, Bob Gibson (3x), Sandy Koufax and Bill Dinneen are only others with 24+ strikeouts in one series.”

Cleveland defeated Chicago in Game 5, 2-0. Williams ended up pitching a gem. He allowed no runs and just one hit over five-plus innings of work.
