The curtain has fallen on the OBJ Broadway revival.
Via NFL Network, the Giants will release receiver Odell Beckham Jr.
It’s not a surprise. Beckham has barely played. In Week 1, Beckham had 11 snaps and zero targets. In Week 2, Beckham had three snaps and zero targets. In Week 3, Beckham had six snaps, one target, and no catches.
Beckham was on the roster bubble when the Giants cut from 90 players to 53. And while he made the team, he has barely played. He seemed to be content with that. Whatever the reason, the Giants have decided to move on.
It’s also possible the Giants are getting out the word that they’ll be releasing him in order to get someone to offer them something for his contract, which pays out the league minimum salary. Even if they get only a conditional seventh-round pick from a team like the Rams or the 49ers (both of which could use help at the position), it will be something more than nothing at all.
Absent a trade, Beckham will once again become a free agent.
