The San Francisco Giants officially placed ace Logan Webb on the 15-day injured list Friday with a blister on his right middle finger, ending his 2026 MLB season.

Webb finishes the year with an 8-9 record, a 4.31 ERA and 134 strikeouts across 27 starts and 160 2/3 innings. The move comes after the right-hander was lined up for two more starts, but Giants manager Tony Vitello had already indicated that his Sept. 13 outing against the San Diego Padres could be his final appearance. Webb allowed six runs over five innings in that game, his third poor outing in his previous five starts.

The 29-year-old's late-season skid dragged down his overall numbers. Webb logged a 9.55 ERA across his final five outings, including a career-worst performance Sept. 1 versus the Pittsburgh Pirates, where he surrendered nine runs in just over two innings. His 4.31 ERA was his highest in a full season since his rookie campaign in 2020, when he posted a 5.47 ERA.

Despite the uneven finish, Webb still put together 17 quality starts, good for a 67% quality-start rate that ranked 10th among 120 qualified pitchers. His ground-ball rate finished at 50.7%, while his strikeout rate dropped from 9.7 strikeouts per nine innings last season to 7.5 this year. He also finished with 1.4 bWAR after recording between 3.4 and 5.8 in each of the previous four seasons.

The blister marks Webb's second injured-list stint of the season. He missed around three weeks in May because of right knee bursitis, his first IL absence since 2021. Webb said the knee has not bothered him since receiving a cortisone shot and that he will not need a cleanup procedure for the blister.

His 2026 campaign also ended his streak of three consecutive 200-inning seasons. Webb's workload was further extended by his participation with Team USA in the World Baseball Classic in March, although he said he had no regrets about representing his country.

The Giants also placed infielder Nate Furman on the 10-day IL with a right oblique strain. Outfielder Victor Bericoto was reinstated after rehabbing a right knee injury, while right-hander Duncan Davitt was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento.

San Francisco entered Friday at 64-89 and had already been eliminated from postseason contention for the fifth straight year. With Webb under contract through 2028, the Giants will rely on him as part of their future rotation, alongside Landen Roupp, while several young pitchers continue recovering from Tommy John surgery.
