Good luck getting into the New York Knicks' Opening Night game against the Philadelphia 76ers, as the ticket prices are insane and have made NBA history.
The Athletic reports that the average price of tickets for the season opener is $1,894 on TickPick, and “many tickets” are going for over $5,000. The get-in price is the “highest average price ever” for an NBA regular season game.
Of course, attending the Opening Night game means you'll witness the championship banner raise and ring ceremony in person. It is also the Knicks' first championship in 53 years, driving up the demand.
New York is also one of the biggest markets in the NBA. The 76ers, who added LeBron James and Jaylen Brown, are also demanding one of the highest median get-in prices. The Knicks still lead the league at a median get-in price of $226 at Madison Square Garden, but the Sixers have the highest median get-in price for road games, as fans want to see James play.
Meanwhile, the average get-in price for an NBA game elsewhere is just $43. Some of the other teams courting the highest median get-in prices around the league are other iconic franchises like the Los Angeles Lakers ($113), the Boston Celtics ($93), and the Golden State Warriors ($75). The Minnesota Timberwolves ($90), the 76ers ($88), the Toronto Raptors ($68), and the San Antonio Spurs ($59) are also on the list.
Some of the cheaper games to get into are the Memphis Grizzlies and the Charlotte Hornets' home games, which have a median of $19.50 get-in prices.
