Victor Wembanyama has continued to lead the San Antonio Spurs in fitting fashion, and it seems as if he is intent on doing the same off the court as well. Wembanyama arrived to the Spurs’ matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves dressed as Geralt of Rivia, the protagonist from ‘The Witcher’ fantasy series.
The 7-foot-4 French superstar wore a long silver wig, a flowing black cloak and a sword strapped across his back, with the Spurs sharing footage of his arrival on X. Wembanyama's choice reflected his longstanding interest in science fiction, fantasy books and imaginative storytelling, with The Witcher being his favorite book series.
He previously explained that he particularly enjoys the series because it combines epic fantasy with explorations of human psychology and emotions, adding that after reading seven books, he feels familiar with its characters as though they were friends or family.
“Why is it my favorite? Because it feels as much like a fantasy book, epic fantasy, as a dive into human psychology, and emotions,” he recently said, per The Sporting News.. “The characters are so deep. After reading seven books, it's like I know these characters like they're friends or family members. It's a great, great series. My favorite.”
The Geralt costume marked Wembanyama's third Halloween-inspired NBA arrival, following his 2023 transformation into Slender Man and his 2024 appearance as No-Face from Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away. Regardless, the Spurs play the Timberwolves hoping to continue their resurgent run after a hat trick of wins to reach 3-2 for the season.
Wemby was not the only San Antonio player participating in the celebrations, with rookie Taris Reed Jr. dressing as Jim Halpert from The Office, recreating the sitcom character's famous three-hole-punch costume. De'Aaron Fox dressed as Buzz Lightyear alongside his wife, Recee, who portrayed Bo Peep, and their children, who completed the Toy Story family theme as Woody and Jessie. Carter Bryant also joined the festivities with a costume inspired by Ace, the character played by Wood Harris in the 2002 crime drama Paid in Full.
San Antonio has opened the season with two losses but are now looking exactly like the team they looked like for much of last season.
