Coach Bob Chesney is loving life in Los Angeles and the UCLA Bruins are 8-0 on the season, cruising toward a potential College Football Playoff spot after a 27-0 win over the Nevada Wolfpack in the Rose Bowl. The Bruins opened Week 9 up five places in the College Football Power Rankings, and lived up to the hype in their relatively easy win.
After the game, 247Sports' Mike Relagado shared Chesney's comments on staying in attack mode amid what feels like a dream season in Los Angeles.
“Not really different…I think for me, after a win, you feel like there's so much work left to be done…So, with every win, it's nice, but you have to enjoy them because it is not easy to do, but at the same point in time, there's a lot of work that still needs to go into this thing and we gotta get better.”
UCLA has been cooking lately, hitting an undefeated streak that reached back 20 years. Chesney has managed to keep the ship sailing in the right direction with Ty Dieffenbach starting at quarterback for the injured Nico Iamaleava, the former Tennessee Volunteers star. Dieffenbach threw for 178 yards and a touchdown on 16-of-30 completions, enough to down the Wolfpack on a day when the Bruins' defense pitched a shutout.
Article Continues BelowWayne Knight has provided solid, consistent rushing from his starting running back position, while UCLA's defense continues to prove itself as one of the best in the Big Ten, capable of holding teams to less than their season averages on a week-in, week-out basis.
Chesney has a trait that all great coaches have in that he is never satisfied, no matter the result. He might not truly celebrate unless UCLA wins a Big Ten or national championship. Until then, he will continue to live in the film room, and help his team to reach its ultimate potential as much as he humanly can.
