Georgia football watched quarterback Gunnar Stockton hit a new level against Alabama. But Stockton and the Bulldogs now must operate without running back Chauncey Bowens against Auburn.

Bowens “is expected” to sit out the Saturday showdown with his calf injury, college football insider Pete Nakos reported Wednesday. The running back sustained the ailment before Georgia took down Alabama. He left early against Vanderbilt during the previous Saturday rout of the Commadores.

Bowens has racked up 124 yards but scored six touchdowns through short-yardage duties. He's provided head coach Kirby Smart a strong goal line option when the Bulldogs want to play muscle ball with opponents.

Georgia also watched Bowens burst onto the backfield scene by scoring six touchdowns in 2025. Fortunately for Smart and company, the Bulldogs have created a committee approach out of the running game over the years. He'll lean into Dwight Phillips Jr., Bo Walker and Nate Frazier for the time being. Phillips rises as the leader in yardage out of this trio, tallying 280 yards. But Frazier has scored the most with five.

So the Bulldogs now own the nation's best ranking after escaping the clutches of the Crimson Tide. But watched Stockton hit a new career-high against the top 10 foe out in Tuscaloosa. Georgia and Smart still needs that version of the quarterback moving forward as the target grows for the aspiring national title contender out of the SEC.

Auburn is transitioning over to Alex Golesh as head coach and has shown flashes of potential on offense. The Tigers still walk in unranked and owning a 3-2 mark, plus will be a heavy underdog in this one.
