It's hard to imagine a better Tuesday night than the one Detroit Red Wings forward Alex DeBrincat had. DeBrincat scored two goals in an overtime loss to the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday. Shortly after that loss, the Red Wings star signed a massive seven-year contract extension with the franchise.

The Red Wings are an absolute mess right now. Detroit is one of the NHL's most storied franchises. However, they have had nothing but bad news since the end of last season. On Wednesday, DeBrincat explained that remaining in Hockeytown meant the world to him.

“It's so important to me. I feel like I'm so proud to be a Red Wing and put on that jersey every night and I take immense pride in it,” DeBrincat said, via NHL.com. “So do a lot of the guys in that room so happy to be here and happy to be here for a long time.”

The Red Wings star is one of the team's most productive forwards. This year, he leads the team with four goals and eight points through six games. He was Detroit's leading point scorer last year, as well, scoring 41 goals and 85 points.

Since arriving in Detroit, he has led the team with 111 goals dating back to the 2023-24 campaign. Only Lucas Raymond (232) has scored more points than the 28-year-old DeBrincat (230) in that time.

The Red Wings needed some positive momentum. If Detroit can resolve other issues, such as the ongoing Simon Edvinsson drama, the vibe around this team could certainly turn around. DeBrincat and his teammates are in action again on Friday when they take on the winless Philadelphia Flyers.
