Cleveland Guardians starting pitcher Gavin Williams made a significant impact throughout the 2026 regular season. Williams has continued his strong performance in the postseason. He's also become more of a vocal leader this year, something he addressed on Wednesday ahead of Thursday's Game 3 of the American League Championship Series.
“Definitely being more comfortable a little bit,” Williams told reporters, via Mason Horodyski of News 5 Cleveland. “Through my, I guess first year, year and a half, I had the elbow thing. Getting called up you don't really want to over-step on anything… Seeing what you should do and what you shouldn't do. I definitely got more comfortable with that throughout the years.”
Williams last pitched on Saturday in Cleveland's American League Division Series clinching victory over the Chicago White Sox. The big right-hander led the way in a pitcher's duel, as he turned in 5.2 scoreless innings while striking out 12 hitters in a 2-0 win. What made the outing even more impressive was the fact that Williams closed Thursday's 9-5 victory over the White Sox out.

With the series tied 1-1 heading back to Cleveland, the Guards could certainly use a strong outing from Williams. Taking a 2-1 series lead would provide them with a crucial momentum boost.
Game 3 is now scheduled to begin a 1 PM ET on Thursday due to expected weather in the area. First pitch was initially scheduled for 6 PM ET.
