On Wednesday evening, the New York Yankees officially earned their spot in the ALDS with another blowout home win over the Boston Red Sox in the Wild Card round, sweeping that matchup in the process. The Yankees will now gear up to face the Tampa Bay Rays, the team with the best overall record in the AL, beginning this weekend, with a spot in the ALCS on the line.

Recently, Yankees star George Lombard Jr., who had a big game on Wednesday vs the Red Sox, weighed in on the team's championship outlook as October Baseball officially arrives.

“The ultimate goal is to bring a trophy back, so that’s what I’m trying to do,” he said, per Gary Phillips of The New York Daily News Sports on X, formerly Twitter.

Lombard Jr. has been solid for the Yankees throughout the season and was one of many players to step up both during the year and this week against the Red Sox with superstar Aaron Judge out of the lineup due to an injury.

At this point, it's unclear if Judge will be ready for the matchup against the Rays. The star missed most of the year due to a ribcage injury and suffered a new ailment just days after returning to the lineup. However, the team displayed impressive resilience in knocking off the rival Red Sox this week despite not having their best player in action, and Lombard Jr. was a big part of the reason why.

In any case, the Yankees and Rays are slated to get their ALDS series underway on Saturday afternoon at 6:30 pm ET from Tampa Bay.
