Jon Sumrall and the No. 8 Florida Gators have some self-reflecting to do after their embarrassing 45-17 loss to the No. 25 Missouri Tigers on Saturday afternoon.

Sumrall is going through his first year as the Gators' head coach following an incredible stint at Tulane. He is off to an incredible start after winning the first four games, bringing Florida back inside the top 10 of the latest AP Top 25 poll.

However, bumps were bound for his journey. Missouri happened to be the first one with the Tigers beating down the Gators. Sumrall reflected on the loss after the game, describing it as an embarrassing one.

“They're a good football team, they didn't need our help, they played really good. Hats off to them. But we did not play to our standard. Embarrassing performance in every phase. It starts with the coaching and it starts with me,” Sumrall said.

“I told our guys in the locker room, ‘I expect everybody to be a man,' which means to be accountable to your actions and own it. Gonna start that way right now. I'm not going to point fingers at anybody, but we have to play a lot better. I'm sick to my freaking stomach with what we just did.”

How Jon Sumrall, Florida performed against Missouri

Jon Sumrall and No. 8 Florida have time to get back on track. However, if they want to stay in the mix for the CFP bracket, they must win their remaining games in convincing fashion.

Missouri controlled the momentum for most of the game. After being even at three apiece in the first quarter, the Tigers went on to torch Florida 42-14 in the last three periods of the contest.

Aaron Philo wasn't able to make his typical impact on the field. He completed 21 out of 34 passes for 197 yards and a touchdown.

The receiving corps was a bright spot. Dallas Wilson led with four receptions for 66 yards and a touchdown, while TJ Abrams caught three passes for 55 yards and a touchdown.

The No. 8 Gators will look to bounce back in their next matchup, being at home. They host the South Carolina Gamecocks in Week 6 as kickoff commences on Oct. 10.
