Not many can throw a deep ball like Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, but Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham has an arm, and the WNBA star might give the two-time NFL MVP a run for his money.

Before one of the Fever's recent games, Cunningham signed and threw a mini football into the stands for a lucky fan. She absolutely launched the first ball, nearly sending it into the nosebleeds.

She followed that up by punting another mini football about the same distance (albeit a little less accurately). Either way, she impressed those around her. One of the security guards can be heard saying, “Don't throw your arm out,” after she threw the first ball.

“Call me Patrick Mahomes from here on out,” she joked in response to the video on X, formerly Twitter.

It makes sense that Cunningham measured herself to Mahomes. She is from Missouri and played college basketball for the University of Missouri. In turn, she is likely a Chiefs fan.

Mahomes' rocket arm is also one of his most distinguishing traits. He put it on full display during the Chiefs' Week 2 win over the Indianapolis Colts. Since his return from a torn ACL injury suffered in December 2025, he has thrown 566 yards and five touchdowns against one interception. He has also rushed for a touchdown.

Cunningham and the Fever are coming off a win against the Minnesota Lynx, and she scored 11 points off the bench. The Fever blew out the Lynx 96-77. The teams will face off again on Thursday, Sep. 24, in their final games of the regular season. Both teams are expected to be in the playoffs, as the Lynx have the best record in the league (32-11) and the Fever are in second place in the Eastern Conference at 28-15.

With one game left in her second season with the Fever, Cunningham is averaging eight points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game. She has played in 42 games, starting three of them.
