Oklahoma football survived a recent scare from New Mexico in Norman. But the Sooners' recruiting efforts looks just fine after the narrow win over the Lobos. Now Brent Venables and OU added some uncanny speed into their 2028 class.
Oklahoma secured its latest College Football Recruiting win via Colton Fitzgibbon, who confirmed his Wednesday decision to Hayes Fawcett of On3/Rivals.
But the San Ramon Valley High star of Danville, California Fitzgibbon brings more than a wide receiving acumen to OU. He also stars on the baseball diamond. Plus he's the owner of this unreal time in the 60-yard dash: 6.26, making him the fastest in the country for that mark.
“Blessed and honored to become part of the family, Boomer Sooner!” Fitzgibbon tells Fawcett.
Article Continues BelowVenables will likely hand Fitzgibbon over to offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle. The OC will aim to make great use of Fitzgibbon's wheels. Arbuckle's offense already calls for a heavy emphasis on wide receiver play, with the intent of going after a defense's weakest links through speed. His attack is RPO (Run Pass Option) based that hands quarterback John Mateer lots of freedom, including making checks at the line of scrimmage.
Arbuckle's system attacks horizontally and vertically, making Fitzgibbon ideal for this type of attack. But Fitzgibbon can go deep in another sport at OU: Baseball. He even told Sooner Scoop of On3 that he visited Norman on a visit through that sport. Signs point to the 5-foot-10 wideout suiting up for both Sooner football and baseball.
