Falcons quarterback Michael Penix was confident he avoided a serious rib injury when he was hurt on Sunday night and nothing’s changed about that outlook in the last couple of days.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski told reporters at his press conference that Penix is expected to participate in practice on Wednesday. Stefanski said, via Will McFadden of the team’s website, that Penix “will be limited in some fashion” during the workout, but being on the field in any capacity is obviously a good sign for his chances of playing against the Bears on Sunday.

Penix was injured while being sacked late in the fourth quarter, but was able to return after one play on the bench. Tua Tagovailoa came back into the game after the Ravens scored a touchdown on their opening drive of overtime and threw a game-ending interception to Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton.

Penix said after the game that he thought he would have been able to keep playing had the Falcons gotten the ball to open extra time, but “it just started to get worse and worse” while on the sideline. The Falcons will be hoping that the time off between games has a more positive effect on Penix’s health.
