The Philadelphia Eagles have placed running back Dameon Pierce on injured reserve and signed former Dallas Cowboys running back Jaydon Blue to the active roster, the team announced.

Philadelphia also announced three practice squad signings, adding guard Evan Beerntsen, wide receiver Quentin Skinner and defensive back Shaun Wade.

Pierce's move to injured reserve creates another change in the Eagles' running back room. He had been serving as Saquon Barkley's backup after Will Shipley suffered an injury, giving Philadelphia another option behind its starting running back. With Pierce now on IR, the Eagles will need to adjust their depth at the position.

Blue now has an opportunity to make an impression in Philadelphia after beginning his professional career with Dallas. The former Texas Longhorn entered the NFL with potential as a young running back, and joining the Eagles' active roster gives him a chance to compete for opportunities in a new backfield.

Philadelphia's decision to sign Blue comes at a time when maintaining depth behind Barkley is important. The Eagles rely on their ground game as part of their offensive identity, and having capable options available behind their starter can help the team manage its workload throughout the season.

Blue will have to make the most of his opportunity as he transitions to a new organization. While Barkley remains the primary option in Philadelphia's backfield, injuries can quickly change the distribution of carries and create openings for other running backs.

The Eagles have also made several practice squad additions as they continue to manage their roster. Beerntsen, Skinner and Wade will join Philadelphia's practice squad, providing additional depth at guard, wide receiver and defensive back, respectively.
