Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter's right wrist injury could continue affecting him for the remainder of the 2026 season.

The 25-year-old suffered a hairline fracture in his right wrist in Week 1 against the Washington Commanders and has played with a cast. Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, he acknowledged that a full recovery this year is unlikely.

“Probably not going to be 100 percent this year,” said Carter.

However, he expects to transition to a softer cast for Sunday's game versus the Commanders, with the possibility of playing without one when Philadelphia faces the New York Giants next week.

Carter's injury has coincided with inconsistent performances despite his considerable potential. He has eight solo tackles, three sacks, five tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, two quarterback hits and two pass breakups through seven games this season.

His best performance came in Week 4 versus the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. Carter finished with three tackles for loss, two sacks and three solo tackles in that game.

However, he was considerably less effective in Monday night's loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Although he played 59 of 68 defensive snaps, Carter managed only two assisted tackles and no sacks, solo tackles, quarterback hits, tackles for loss or quarterback pressures.

His decline in production come as Philadelphia sits at 2-5 and third in the NFC East. The Eagles rank 31st in sacks per game, averaging 1.1, while allowing 239.9 passing yards and 131.4 rushing yards per game.

Carter signed a contract extension worth up to $160 million during the offseason, making him the NFL's highest-paid defensive tackle. While he has earned two Pro Bowl selections and was named a second-team All-Pro in 2024, his performances have not consistently matched expectations this season.

With quarterback Jalen Hurts out for the remainder of the campaign and offensive linemen Lane Johnson and Cam Jurgens also sidelined, Philadelphia is dealing with major injury problems across its roster. Carter's admission that he may not regain full health this year adds another concern as the Eagles attempt to improve their results.
