The Atlanta Dream are still jockeying for playoff positioning with the Las Vegas Aces, as they can still finish with the three-seed with the 2026 WNBA regular season winding down. On Monday, the Dream secured a 95-84 victory over the New York Liberty to improve to 29-14 on the season. If the Aces lose out to end the campaign and Atlanta wins its final game (also against the Liberty), they can finish above the reigning champion in the standings.

This season has merely been a continuation of the Dream's electric 2025 campaign, when they finished with a 30-14 record — blossoming into one of the best teams in the WNBA after finishing below .500 for six consecutive seasons prior.

One of the main driving forces for the Dream has been Rhyne Howard, the first overall pick of the 2022 WNBA Draft. She is the team's second-leading scorer (behind Allisha Gray), and it's her proficiency from beyond the arc that opens up a lot of space for Atlanta's offense. And while she did go just 2-8 from beyond the arc in their win over the Liberty on Monday, she still made history with her three-point production.

By making two three-pointers, she now has 500 made threes for her career. The Dream guard then became the youngest player in WNBA history, at 26 years old and 146 days, and the fastest (178 career games) to reach that mark, as per the official WNBA account on X.

Howard has never been shy to let it fly from beyond the arc. For her career, she's averaging nearly nine attempts from deep per game (8.8), and she's made nearly three of them (2.8) per contest. She commands a ton of respect just due to her sheer willingness to let it fly, and in 2026, her efficiency from beyond the arc has reached a new level, as she's made over three triples per contest on a 36.0% clip — a career-best.

The Dream will need more of this sort of production from deep from Howard as they look to contend for the WNBA championship — something the franchise has never won in its 19-year history.
