49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw has been suspended for one game after his actions during the first half of Sunday’s game against the Seahawks, the NFL announced on Monday.
While he can appeal the suspension, he currently will be eligible to return to San Francisco’s active roster on Tuesday, Oct. 20, as the 49ers play the Commanders on Monday night in Week 6.
While on Seattle’s sideline after a play, Greenlaw used his helmet to headbutt linebacker Ernest Jones, who was not wearing a helmet. The NFL’s announcement notes this was a violation of Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1, which applies to “any act which is contrary to the generally understood principles of sportsmanship.”
Greenlaw was ejected from the game.
Greenlaw was previously suspended one game in 2025 for unsportsmanlike conduct.
If Greenlaw appeals, his suspension would be heard and decided upon by the NFL and NFLPA’s jointly appointed hearing officers: Derrick Brooks, Jordy Nelson, Ron Rivera, or James Thrash.
