The Los Angeles Dodgers fell short of their goal to win a third straight World Series. The Dodgers were swept by the Milwaukee Brewers in the NLCS. As the Dodgers look to return to the mountaintop in 2027, they will make some big moves this offseason.
While the team failed to win another title, the dynasty is not over yet, and they could be looking to get younger, per Jim Bowden of The Athletic.
“The Dodgers may have fallen four wins short of a third straight title, but I expect them to be right back at it next year. Their dynasty is not over, even though they have some aging stars. Getting Shohei Ohtani completely healthy will be a huge step in the right direction, and then trying to get younger and more athletic and finding other ways to score runs should be their priorities this offseason,” Bowden started.
The Dodgers' average age of position players was one of the oldest in the majors. They have Freddie Freeman, Max Muncy, and Mookie Betts, who are all 34 years old or older.
“I think they could improve at second base and left field and add a platoon right-handed bat for third base, as well,” Bowden continued. “Taking a big swing to try to trade for the Nationals’ Abrams or the Reds’ De La Cruz also would make a lot of sense for them. That said, they feel several of their top prospects, such as outfielders Josue De Paula, Mike Sirota and Eduardo Quintero, are getting closer to being major-league ready.”
Article Continues BelowBringing in a player like Elly De La Cruz or CJ Abrams would be a massive get for the Dodgers. De La Cruz hit .283 this year wth a .365 on-base percentage. He also had 30 home runs with 79 RBIs and 30 stolen bases. Meanwhile, Abrams hit .261 with a .336 on-base percentage. He also had 33 home runs, 106 RBIs, and 34 stolen bases. Both players are also much younger than the current options. De La Cruz will be 25 years old when the season begins, while Abrams will be 26.
Still, the Dodgers will not be the only team going after De La Cruz and Abrams, as teams such as the Boston Red Sox are interested in their services.
