The sports world continues to dive deeper and deeper into gambling with no end in sight. In late news saw LeBron James join Derek Jeter and Eli Manning, all of whom partnered up with a gambling brand. San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama says he won't ever do that.
In speaking with members of the media after Thursday afternoon's practice in San Antonio, the Spurs center was asked about gambling and the possibility of himself promoting gambling. That was shut down rather quickly.
“Absolutely not, Wembanyama said to reporters. “I will never do that. Honestly, I think it's very sad to see some players promote it in my opinion. Everybody does whatever they want without me.”
When asked for further clarification on how he goes about choosing brands to partner with, Victor Wembanyama says that money no longer plays a factor in it.
“In the past, there was a dimension of money in the past, but not anymore,” Wembanyama said. “Even if I say that, I've refused plenty, much, much more money that I've made for things that were not to my values. And now I want to promote things that have a good impact, have a good influence in the world, with who I can share messages with and values. One thing that's very important, for me our biggest strength is not our… Obviously we earn millions and millions. This is not our biggest strength. Our biggest strength is inspiring and we can inspire in a good or a bad way. I want to inspire in a good way. That's the strongest thing I can do.”

The comments didn't name any players specifically, but it sure does appear to target the biggest name in the NBA who just so happened to announce a deal with a new gambling partner in recent weeks.
In recent months, Wembanyama has chosen to partner with NBA 2K as they unveiled him as the new cover athlete for the all new NBA 2K26 video game.
