DeMar DeRozan has been open about his struggles with depression and mental health for the better part of a decade. He actively works to raise awareness on those serious subject matters through his podcast, “Dinners with DeMar.” But life is a constant fight, and personal reflection does not heal all. The three-time All-NBA selection and current Denver Nuggets sixth man recently made some remarks that are drawing concern from the public.

“You ever just sit in a dark room and feel like the darkness is the only thing that truly understands you,” DeRozan posted on X on Sunday afternoon. “No fake smiles, no false hope. Just raw bitter silence…”

It is always hard to interpret remarks such as these without further context, but given his past battles, fans are going to take notice. Hopefully, the Compton, California native is feeling the grace of God in his heart, and the love of his family, friends, teammates, coaches and supporters.

DeRozan still has a deep passion for basketball and is determined to help the Nuggets return to championship contention after a few tough playoff exits, but he is incredibly committed to wielding a strong influence that transcends the court. He has helped many already, and perhaps now he can lean on others to get him through the current leg of his lifelong journey.

The 37-year-old's well being takes priority. When he steps on the court for Monday's home game versus the Golden State Warriors, fans will want to see a big smile on his face. Denver has not been his home for very long, but DeMar DeRozan still deserves some love from Ball Arena.
