The UConn Huskies ensured that head coach Dan Hurley would remain on the sidelines at least through the 2031-32 season after agreeing to a contract extension on Friday. The new two-year deal ensures that Hurley remains one of the highest-paid head coaches in college basketball. Following the initial report in the morning, the program made it official with Hurley releasing a statement expressing his gratitude to remain at the helm for the foreseeable future.

“It’s an incredible honor to coach the game I love at a place like the University of Connecticut, and to be a part of a community that means so much to me and my family,” Hurley wrote. “We understand our responsibility to the people of Connecticut and to the incredible supporters of UConn basketball, and will continue to bring a relentless, obsessive approach to winning a championship-level success. UConn is the basketball capital of the world, bleed blue!”

Dan Hurley initially signed a contract extension with UConn following the 2023-24 season. That contract had come after he had led the Huskies to back-to-back national championships. He was reportedly pursued by the Los Angeles Lakers that offseason after they parted ways with Darvin Ham, but he chose to remain with the UConn program.
