Chicago Cubs star Alex Bregman recently suffered an injury scare after getting hit in the face by a batted ball while waiting to hit in the on-deck circle during a game against the Cincinnati Reds. It was reported on Monday that Bregman wouldn't require surgery, but it remained to be seen how much time he would miss. Manager Craig Counsell told reporters ahead of Tuesday's game against the Miami Marlins that Bregman will avoid an injured list stint, per Jesse Rogers of ESPN. However, he is day-to-day for now.
“Craig Counsell said Alex Bregman is in a good place. He will not go on the IL. The reg season is not ruled out. Just taking it day by day,” Rogers reported.

It's good news even though Bregman isn't in Tuesday's lineup. There's a chance he will return before the regular season comes to an end on Sunday. Pedro Ramirez is hitting seventh and playing third base on Tuesday amid Bregman's injury absence.

The 32-year-old third baseman has hit .262/.352/.452 across 153 games played so far during the 2026 campaign. Bregman has 26 home runs, 32 doubles and two triples in what has been a strong first year for him with the Cubs.
As for the ball club, Chicago is currently tied with the San Diego Padres for the lead in the National League Wild Card standings. Chicago is hoping to clinch the top spot ahead of the National League Wild Card round of the postseason.
