The Washington Commanders have been unable to get all their most important offensive players healthy at the same time, and that will remain true for a while, but they could get a boost at wide receiver for Monday's road game against the undefeated San Francisco 49ers. Stefon Diggs is ‘trending towards playing,' according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Jayden Daniels is facing a great deal of adversity after losing track of the timeout situation in last Sunday's overtime meltdown versus the New York Giants. He could use another reliable target alongside Terry McLaurin. Running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt is headed to injured reserve, per Ian Rapoport of ESPN and NFL Network, so the Commanders will need as much offensive assistance as possible. With Jeremy McNichols coming off the IR, perhaps the backfield can do enough to survive for now.
Washington is also getting good news on defense. Cornerback Trey Amos and linebacker Jordan Magee are ending their stints on the IR as well, per Schefter. These developments could have a positive long-term effect, especially in an unimpressive NFC East. The Commanders do not have the luxury of simply looking ahead, however. They may be facing an imposing force in Week 6, but at 1-3-1, every game counts.
