On Sunday, the Washington Commanders dropped to 0-2 with an ugly road loss at the hands of the Dallas Cowboys. The big storyline of this game for Washington was the dislocated elbow sustained by starting quarterback Jayden Daniels that caused him to miss the entire second half of the game.

Now, the team has gotten the latest update on Daniels' injury recovery process.

“#Commanders QB Jayden Daniels underwent imaging today and now will consult with a variety of experts over the next few days as is team protocol, sources say,” reported NFL insider Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network on X, formerly Twitter.

Adam Schefter of ESPN later reported on X that “Commanders QB Marcus Mariota is expected to start Sunday vs. Seattle as Washington continues to gather more information about Jayden Daniels’ dislocated left elbow.”

Mariota got plenty of starts for the Commanders last year as Daniels dealt with various injuries throughout the season, and unfortunately, that trend has continued into the 2026 campaign.

The injury occurred just before halftime on Sunday when Daniels was stepped on by an offensive lineman after the ball was snapped, causing him to stumble backwards. As he reached down to regain his footing, his elbow bent in an awkward position that caused commentator Tom Brady to curse on the air in reaction to the gruesome replay.

The Commanders are already fully behind the eight ball at 0-2, and now, they'll have to face the defending Super Bowl champions without their star player on the field.

Things have certainly been better.
