The Connecticut SunâÂÂs time in Uncasville is officially on the clock as the team has only two home games remaining this year before the franchise moves to Houston and rebrands as the Comets for the 2027 WNBA season. In the meantime, the organization has begun rolling out their marketing campaign, beginning with a new social media graphic seemingly featuring the likeness of former Comets star Sheryl Swoopes flexing her championship rings.
Sheryl Swoopes was awarded to the Houston Comets during the 1997 WNBA Allocation Draft, and she played 10 seasons for the franchise helping them win the leagueâÂÂs first four championships. Since the announcement that the Sun would be moving to Houston and bringing back the Comets franchise, Swoopes has appeared alongside former teammates Cynthia Cooper and Tina Thompson in promotional events.
During her time with the franchise, she holds career averages of 16.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.2 steals with splits of 44.1 percent shooting from the field, 32.4 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 83 percent shooting from the free-throw line. After her departure from the organization, she played one season for the Seattle Storm and one season for the Tulsa Shock before retirement.

Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta reached an agreement to purchase the Connecticut Sun in 2024 with the intent to relocate the franchise and rebrand as the Comets.
