The Indianapolis Colts are 2-6 on the season and headed for a losing season after a 42-7 loss in Jacksonville that led to a blunt message from star RB Jonathan Taylor. Anthony Richardson entered the game in place of Daniel Jones on a day when possible trade target Josh Downs had four catches for 23 yards and a touchdown.
Downs was absent from the Colts' locker room according to reporter James Boyd, who reported from Jacksonville after press conferences from coach Shane Steichen and QB Daniel Jones.
“Colts WR Josh Downs was not in the locker room after media came in following Shane Steichen and Daniel Jones' postgame press conferences,” Boyd wrote.
“Several other players were still in here. Therefore, we still haven't heard from Downs since his trade request went public.”
The Colts have begun giving younger players a try including recent draft pick DJ Giddens, who led the team in rushing as Taylor trade rumors swirled. Indianapolis elevated two new players to the active roster in an effort to shuffle their roster, but were not competitive as Trevor Lawrence torched them with three touchdown passes.
Article Continues BelowWeek 9 will bring the Cowboys to Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, a chance for the Colts to score a much-needed win and keep their faint playoff hopes alive. Taylor sounds ready to ride for his teammates, but Downs seems mostly checked out, even though he performed fairly well on the field in scoring the Colts' only touchdown.
The Colts' season appears all but lost, and Downs is perhaps the player most likely to be moved before Nov. 10's trade deadline.
