The lofty praise seems to be following San Francisco QB Brock Purdy. And he has surged to the top of the MVP odds. Furthermore, Colin Cowherd said the quiet part out loud about Purdy’s surprising success, according to a post on X by The Herd.
“Everybody is trying to find a quarterback,” Cowherd said. “Don’t you think it’s kind of crazy that the current MVP co-favorite is Brock Purdy, the last player taken in a draft? Why is that?
“Some of it is; it’s a situational league. Unless you’re a mega-talent, where you’re gonna succeed anyway. The second thing is, a lot of quarterback success is based on things you can’t measure at a combine. Toughness. EQ. Leadership. Processing.
“So I have always looked for two flags. One’s a red flag, one’s a green flag. The first thing I’ve looked at is a superpower. A wow trait. What is the superpower in crisis that will turn a loss to a win? Purdy's is above the shoulders. They say he is the great processor in the league. They’ve never seen anybody process more information more quickly.”

So Purdy has the good stuff. And he also doesn’t have the bad stuff, said Cowherd.
“The other flag I look for is a red flag,” Cowherd said. “I’ve been right virtually every time. The red flag is immaturity. How is your judgment? I never saw any of the red flag immaturity stuff (with Purdy).”
Cowherd isn’t alone in his praise of Purdy. Former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III said Purdy doesn’t get enough respect.

Making things even better, Purdy is a coach’s dream, according to a post on X by Josh Chambers.
“Kyle Shanahan says Brock Purdy is so easy to coach because even after Purdy creates a touchdown out of nothing, Shanahan can still immediately tell him what he did wrong, and he will receive it the right way.”
