The Clemson football team suffered another bad defeat on Saturday, to Miami (FL). Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney was positive though after his team's 41-13 loss to the Hurricanes.

“I think we grew in a lot of areas. I know it feels weird to say that after a loss,” Swinney said, per Sports Illustrated. “I’m confident in what we’re doing. I’m confident that we’re going to get that right.”

The Tigers finished the night with 350 total yards of offense. Clemson was woeful though on the ground; the Tigers posted just 55 rushing yards in the loss.

Swinney told reporters he still expects his Clemson team to contend for an ACC title this season. He even grinned when speaking with them, despite getting blown out.

“The score is not indicative of how they competed,” Swinney said. “Tough ball game. They were the better team, they’re a really, really talented team.

“Frustrating night. A missed opportunity.”

Clemson already got blown out once this season by LSU. It was the worst margin of defeat in Swinney's long career at Clemson. The Tigers now have a 3-2 record on the campaign.

Clemson's defense allowed 419 total yards to Miami in the game Saturday. The Tigers also hurt themselves with 10 penalties on the night, for 91 yards.

“In the end, not good enough,” Swinney said. “We’ve got a lot of young guys growing right before our eyes. We’ve got to close the gap. Hopefully we can go have a season where we’ll maybe have an opportunity down the road to play in a game like this. You don’t have a margin for error.”

Clemson next plays Charleston Southern on October 17. The Tigers now hold a 2-1 record in ACC play. Miami meanwhile is undefeated this season at 5-0.
