The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Indianapolis Colts 33-30 in Week 2 overtime action that caused Patrick Mahomes' wife Brittany to scream ‘bad words.' Mahomes had an outstanding game in offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy's system that led to a “best” comment from tight end Travis Kelce.

Bieniemy served as the Chiefs' offensive coordinator for the team's 2020 and 2023 Super Bowl seasons before coming back this season, and the early returns are good so far. The Chiefs OC was named the “biggest offseason addition” by NFL Live's Marcus Spears.

So you look at, just the development, it's self-evaluation from this coaching staff. And I still believe, and I will say it until the cows come home, Eric Bieniemy coming back to this football team may be the biggest offseason acquisition of the offseason.”

Bieniemy's Chiefs offense racked up 523 total yards in Week 2 with Mahomes throwing for 382 yards and three touchdowns, looking fully recovered from the torn ACL and LCL that stopped him in 2025-26. Offseason pickup Kenneth Walker ran for 117 yards, contributing to frightening balance and explosiveness on offense for coach Andy Reid's team.

A Kelce resurgence is icing on the cake for the Chiefs, a development Michael Irvin credited to his wife Taylor Swift. The Chiefs have as much star power as any team in the NFL, and Bieniemy has the coaching chops to weave it all together on offense. Another Super Bowl run looks not only possible, but likely, and the new, yet also familiar, coach on the block is a big reason why.
