On Sunday evening, the Kansas City Chiefs moved to 2-0 on the 2026 NFL season with a narrow home win over the Indianapolis Colts in overtime. The Chiefs' defense didn't have quite as special a performance in this one as they did in Week 1, partly due to the injury absence of rookie cornerback Mansoor Delane.

Delane intercepted the first pass thrown by Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix last week but missed the rest of that game and the Colts matchup; however, now it seems head coach Andy Reid is optimistic about his status moving forward.

“Mansoor Delane (shoulder) could have played if needed last night, but they wanted to give him some more time to heal if possible, per Coach Reid. Sounds like he's trending in the right direction,” reported Matt McMullen of the Chiefs on X, formerly Twitter.

The Chiefs traded up to select Delane out of LSU this past April as they looked to replenish a cornerback room that saw both Jaylen Watson and Trent McDuffie end up on the Los Angeles Rams through various transactions this offseason.

While it's obviously a limited sample size, Delane sure made a good first impression with his early interception vs Denver, and now it seems that a return to action could come soon.

Meanwhile, while the Chiefs' defense took a step back this week, star quarterback Patrick Mahomes looked much more like his usual self, throwing for nearly 400 yards in the win after a relatively quiet first game back from injury last week.

The Chiefs will next hit the field on September 27 for a road game against the Miami Dolphins. Kickoff for that game is set for 1:00 pm ET.
