Week 5 of the NFL is almost over and done with and the time has come to start sifting through the fantasy football implications, particularly among players like Cam Skattebo, who made a big mistake against Washington. Chase Brown, another potential fantasy football star, was overshadowed by Samaje Perine in a Bengals win that coach Zac Taylor wasn't happy with afterward.

Skattebo and Brown are young talents with plenty of good football ahead of them, meaning that fantasy owners shouldn't panic or stress about them just yet. The Giants and Bengals both look like solid teams this year with the depth and the talent to continue playing well in the coming weeks, and Skattebo and Brown are integral to their respective teams.

As the fantasy football season heads toward its midway point, there are plenty of players worth taking a look at in terms of their value and potential going forward. It's not time to stress about them just yet, unless you feel like you need to make a crucial trade to get your team back on track before it's too late.

Cam Skattebo, Giants-

The Giants look like they've rediscovered how to play winning football with John Harbaugh as their new head coach and have a solid defense that didn't play its best against a revitalized Commanders team. A home game against the New Orleans Saints on October 18 will give Skattebo a chance to rediscover his skills in the receiving game he showed a few weeks prior to Week 5.

Jameis Winston is getting more comfortable as Harbaugh's starting quarterback in place of Jaxson Dart which should mean more red zone opportunities to Skattebo to punch in a few touchdowns in the coming weeks. A road game against the Texans on October 25 should be a high scoring one now that the Texans feature Marvin Harrison, Jr., from a deal that gave them an excellent trade grade.

Skattebo has the skills to improve on his 13-carry, 59-yard effort against the Commanders and the team around him to make it happen. He is worth sticking with as the season continues onward.

Chase Brown, Bengals-

Brown has a middling average of 3.5 yards per carry with just one touchdown on the season and seems like a poor fit for the Bengals' offense at times. Zac Taylor and company want to throw the ball downfield which doesn't play to Brown's strengths as a great receiver out of the backfield and home run threat as a runner.

The Bengals feel as though Perine is the better guy to force the defense to commit more defenders to the box so Joe Burrow can throw over the top. Things look rough for Brown right now, but he was never meant to be an elite level fantasy football running back.

He is more of a spot starter who can put up big numbers in specific matchups, and Week 7 at home against the Tennessee Titans looks like one. Week 6 coming up against Baltimore will be a trickier matchup for Brown, but Perine likely won't have the same success against the Ravens' strong Jesse Minter led defense that he did against the Commanders.

Jeremiyah Love, Cardinals-

Love isn't just a big part of the Cardinals' offense, he is the focal point of the offense and will be for the rest of the season. The Cardinals have made their thoughts on Love very clear which means fantasy football owners should expect tons of carries from him throughout the rest of the year.

Love failed to crack 30 yards rushing against the Lions, which looks bad on paper but belies the situation that unfolded as the Lions jumped out to a huge lead and forced Jacoby Brissett to beat them through the air. Love had zero receptions against Detroit, which is something that likely won't happen again this season.

Brissett excels in the short passing game and Love is going to be a big part of it going forward, along with the running game. Now that Harrison Jr. is in Houston, the Cardinals' offense will take on a different form, starting with the inclusion of more receivers like Michael Wilson and Kendrick Bourne.

Love is still going to have a big season once he figures out how to work best in concert with his teammates, but it's going to take time for him to get untracked again.

Sam Darnold, Seahawks-

Darnold threw two interceptions against the 49ers and wasn't his usual self. The 49ers are on a roll despite their injury problems and are looking like the NFL's best team so far this season.

Darnold is more of a game manager who can make the big play when his team needs it. He pressed more than usual against San Francisco giving fans concern for his fantasy prospects going forward. Darnold has the receiving corps, the defense, and the coaching staff to prop him up.

Expect better performances from Darnold for the rest of the season, but he isn't a front line starter making him a good backup or waiver wire pickup from here on out.
