It was a historic Saturday for Kentucky football. The Wildcats took out LSU in overtime for their fifth win of the season. Kentucky is now 5-1 for the first time since 2023. They have also defeated two teams ranked inside the Top 10 of the AP Poll. That is the first time they have done that in a single season since 2007. Kentucky is also the first team to win back-to-back overtime victories by just one point.
Two weeks ago against South Carolina, Kentucky tied the game in the fourth quarter, leading to overtime. After South Carolina scored in overtime, Kentucky answered and went for two. Kenny Minchey found Willie Rodriguez for the two and the 35-34 win. This past Saturday, the Wildcats hit a field goal with 12 seconds left in the game to force overtime against LSU. After a Sam Leavitt touchdown, Kentucky answered with a CJ Baxter score. As they did the week before, Will Stein called for the two-point play. Minchey ran in the conversion attempt, leading to a second straight 35-34 victory.
Unlike the upset of Texas A&M earlier this year and the overtime win over South Carolina, this one was at home, leading to fans storming the field.

In accordance with SEC rules, Kentucky will be fined $500 thousand.
Article Continues BelowThe policy from the conference states that “institutions shall limit access to competition areas to participating student-athletes, coaches, officials, support personnel and properly credentialed or authorized individuals at all times. For the safety of participants and spectators alike, at no time before, during or after a contest may spectators enter the competition area.”
There is good news for LSU in this situation. In conference contests, fines are paid to the opposing institution, meaning LSU will be receiving the half million from Kentucky.
For Kentucky, it is money well spent to celebrate the historic win. Kentucky has now catapulted up the Top 25 rankings. They look to continue their run on Saturday, as the Wildcats visit Oklahoma on Saturday night.
