The Carolina Panthers will open practice windows for right tackle Taylor Moton and defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton this week.

The Panthers return from their bye atop the NFC South ahead of Sunday’s visit to the Philadelphia Eagles.

The 33rd Team’s Ari Meirov took to X, formerly Twitter, Monday to share the updates following head coach Dave Canales’ announcement. Both players missed the Panthers’ first four games before their Week 5 bye, and neither has a confirmed date for his season debut.

“The #Panthers, returning from their bye, will designate RT Taylor Moton and DT Tershawn “Turk” Wharton to return to practice.”

Opening those windows gives Carolina up to 21 days to evaluate both players before deciding whether to activate them to the 53-man roster. Returning to practice does not guarantee either will play against the Eagles.

Moton began the season on the reserve/non-football illness list after doctors diagnosed a blood clot in his lung in June. The longtime starter missed training camp and the opening month of the season while recovering.

His progress comes as rookie Monroe Freeling deals with a knee injury sustained during the Week 4 victory over the Detroit Lions. The first-round pick started Carolina’s first four games at right tackle in Moton’s absence.

Canales said Moton has received medical clearance, with his readiness for football activity now the focus. The Panthers must assess how he responds to practice before determining his game availability.

Wharton opened the season on the reserve/physically unable to perform list after undergoing neck surgery in May. The former Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle joined the Panthers in 2025 on a three-year contract.

The Panthers will face the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field in Week 6 as they assess both veterans’ football readiness. Moton and Wharton are closer to returning, but Carolina has yet to confirm either player’s availability for the road matchup.
