Hall of Famer and former New York Mets star Carlos Beltran has been mentioned as a potential candidate for the team's manager job, as interim manager Andy Green is expected to return to the front office next season. However, is Beltran even interested in the job? The former star outfielder discussed the subject while speaking to reporters on Saturday, via SNY Mets. It is worth mentioning that Beltran currently serves as a special advisor for the Mets.

“Right now I love what I'm doing,” Beltran said. “… Being a manager in Major League Baseball is a huge commitment, very huge commitment. I'm not saying that I'm not willing to take that commitment, but right now, at the position where I am today in life, I love to be a dad. I love to be a husband. I love to be involved in the Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy in Puerto Rico. Being a manager, you would not be able to do that full-time. With that being said, that decision, I will let the Mets go through the process.

“I think David (Stearns) understands that, probably, there's going to be a search. I hope with that being said that with whatever step forward we do, I know it's going to be for the benefit of the organization. Being honest, I think Andy has done a good job. He has done an incredible job for the Mets since he joined the team.”

Beltran did not rule out the idea of managing in the big leagues someday, but he does seem to be content with his current role. Still, one has to imagine the Mets will request to interview him for the position, and perhaps Beltran will become more open to the idea of accepting the job in the future.

For now, Carlos Beltran is focused on his family, his baseball academy and helping the Mets in his current role.
