The Chicago Bears had about the worst possible showing in Week 2 after their 59-point season opener. Chicago lost a close game against Minnesota, falling 9-3 against their division rival. Not only did the Bears fail to score many points on offense, they also saw their franchise quarterback suffer a painful injury.

Caleb Williams suffered a non-contact injury to his hamstring during the fourth quarter. Bears fans were initially terrified as Williams was carted to the locker room and did not return. Fortunately, Williams got some great injury news on Monday and is not expected to miss much time.

However, Bears head coach Ben Johnson admitted that Williams will likely miss some time despite his positive injury update.

All of this means that backup Tyson Bagent could get the start in Week 3 against the Eagles. That puts Chicago in danger of falling to 1-2 early in the season.

The Bears need to feature one of their most dangerous offensive weapons if they want a chance of beating the Eagles with Bagent under center.

Chicago needs to unleash Colston Loveland to give Tyson Bagent a chance in Week 3

One of the biggest surprises of the 2026 season for the Bears has been Loveland's limited usage.

Loveland received plenty of hype before the regular season. The hype was understandable, as he logged 58 receptions for 713 receiving yards and six touchdowns as a rookie. It stands to reason that he could perform even better in 2026, especially if he became Williams' primary target in the passing game.

But the reality through two games could not be any different.

Loveland only has one reception for three yards through his first two games of the season. The young tight was held without any receptions during the season opener, but those things can happen when dominating an opponent in a blowout. But the fact that Loveland only managed one reception in Week 2 is pretty surprising. Chicago needed someone to step up and make a play and it is shocking that they didn't try harder to get him the ball.

If Williams does not play in Week 3, feeding Loveland may be the only way to improve the offense.

The Eagles will be a tough opponent for Bagent and company to face next week. Philly's defense is incredibly talented, with a front seven that can put pressure on the quarterback in several ways. They are also stout against the running game, so D'Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai won't be able to bail Bagent out with a run-heavy game plan.

Chicago should install some rollout play-action passes into the game plan this week. Getting Bagent on the run plays to his strengths, and play-action concepts could get Loveland open for easy receptions. Those types of easy pitch-and-catch plays could give the Bears the consistency they need on offense to withstand the Eagles.

Bears vs. Eagles is the Monday Night Football matchup in Week 3. It kicks off at 8:15PM ET on September 28th from Soldier Field.
