The Cleveland Browns are currently gearing up for their upcoming game against the New Orleans Saints. The Browns are coming off an ugly loss at the hands of the Pittsburgh Steelers over the weekend, one in which starting quarterback Deshaun Watson finished seemingly healthy but has since gone down with a concussion.
Now, the team has gotten a big update on its quarterback situation for this week's game against New Orleans.
“The vibe at #Browns headquarters on Wednesday of #Saints week is that Shedeur Sanders will start in place of Deshaun Watson (concussion). It will be hard for Watson to clear by Saturday,” reported NFL insider Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com on X, formerly Twitter.
“We'll let it play out, but Shedeur will get the reps today,” said head coach Todd Monken.
Indeed, it would be seemingly difficult for Watson to clear the necessary steps needed to pass the NFL's concussion protocol in time for Sunday's game, which would clear the way for Sanders to get the start.
Many Browns fans had hoped that Sanders would be the team's starting quarterback to open up this season, but Monken ended up going with Watson. Although Watson hasn't necessarily performed at an elite level every week, the Browns have played far above expectations with him at the helm, currently sitting at 5-3 on the season and still in legit contention to win the AFC North despite last week's loss to the Steelers.

Kickoff for that game is set for 1:00 pm ET from New Orleans.
