On Sunday, the Denver Broncos picked up their first win of the 2026 NFL season with a comeback victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars at home. The Broncos didn't have a great start to this one, but ultimately outscored the Jaguars 14-0 in the fourth quarter to pull away and get into the win column.

Now, Broncos head coach Sean Payton has revealed a key injury update–about himself.

“#Broncos coach Sean Payton said he has had a procedure on his back, which was an injection. Said it gets aggravated when standing for three or four hours. But there is no surgery planned. Said he also has a ‘toe issue,'” reported Chris Tomasson of the Denver Gazette on X, formerly Twitter.

It's unclear when the back issue originated or how much pain he is in when standing on the sidelines, but clearly, he plans to soldier through it as the season continues.

The Broncos stumbled out of the gate last week with an ugly loss in primetime to the Kansas City Chiefs on the road, largely failing to click on both sides of the ball.

The early portion of Sunday's game vs Jacksonville looked like more of the same, but Bo Nix and the offense were able to get into a rhythm before it was too late, and Denver avenged its ugly home loss to the Jaguars from a season ago.

The Broncos now sit at an even 1-1 on the season, and they will certainly want Payton to be fully healthy and ready to go, as he is widely considered among the league's best head coaches.

Denver will next hit the field on September 27 for a tough home night game against the Los Angeles Rams.
