The Milwaukee Brewers were on the verge of dropping a game at home to the San Diego Padres in the NLDS, as they entered the bottom of the ninth inning down by one run. While the game isn't over until it's over, the Padres have the best closer in today's game in Mason Miller to shut the door. Alas, even the best relief arms aren't totally invincible — that much Jackson Chourio knows.
After hitting the two-run walk-off single to seal the Brewers' 4-3 win on Sunday to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the NLDS over the Padres, Chourio dropped the mic, saying that he never shies away from getting the big hit.
“Sometimes, I feel like I was born for these moments,” Chourio said, via the official MLB account on X.
Article Continues BelowMiller was back for his second inning of work as the Padres called upon him to put the game to bed and deal with the middle of the Brewers order. He pitched a three-up, three-down eighth inning, showing that he was locked in. However, the second inning of work seemed to sap Miller's energy. After getting one out, he walked Christian Yelich and Sal Frelick. Miller then induced a flyout from Andrew Vaughn, bringing Milwaukee to their final out of the ballgame.
Gary Sanchez then drew a walk to load the bases, setting the stage for Chourio to bring the Brewers home. With the count at 2-2, Chourio smacked a line drive up the middle, scoring the lead runner in Yelich. Frelick then made the beeline for home plate, and Jackson Merrill's throw to the plate seemed to be on point — only for Freddy Fermin to not catch the ball cleanly, securing the 4-3 win for Milwaukee.
The Brewers now need to win one more game to clinch what would be their second-consecutive trip to the NLCS.
