Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff is dealing with a right shoulder injury. There is still a chance that he could return this year, however. MLB.com recently reported that Woodruff is expected to have more imaging on his shoulder on Friday which could determine whether or not he will begin throwing off a mound.
Woodruff's role in the scenario that he does return during the postseason has yet to be revealed, but it seems that working in relief would make the most sense. He would not have to build up as much to work an inning or two out of the bullpen when called upon. It would be an adjustment for a hurler who has primarily been a starting pitcher throughout his big league career.
In 2026, Woodruff impressed while on the mound. He was limited to only nine starts due to injury, though. Still, he did turn in a strong 2.98 ERA during that span.

Milwaukee is currently focused on attempting to clinch the best record in the league. At 99-59, the Brewers are in a quality position to secure home field advantage throughout the postseason. The only teams that are close to them are the 97-61 Los Angeles Dodgers and 96-62 Tampa Bay Rays.
On Thursday, the Brewers will play the Phillies in Philadelphia at 6:05 PM ET. Milwaukee will then return home to finish its season against a National League Central division rival in the St. Louis Cardinals.
