Toronto Blue Jays star pitcher Dylan Cease's season is over due to a shoulder injury. The Blue Jays made a push but were ultimately eliminated from postseason contention on Wednesday as well. With the focus now on 2027, fans are surely wondering if Cease's injury will cause any concerns for the offseason or next year. According to MLB.com, Cease is expected to have a normal offseason.

Cease, 30, enjoyed a tremendous 2026 campaign before suffering the shoulder injury. He recorded a stellar 2.40 ERA, 1.101 WHIP and a league-leading 2.55 FIP. The right-handed hurler added 239 strikeouts in his 169 innings of work on the mound. Cease kept the Blue Jays in the postseason conversation through his 29 outings, but the ball club fell short of the playoffs in the end.

Nevertheless, the decision to sign Cease last offseason worked out to say the least. While the ball club underperformed overall, Cease is set to lead the starting rotation for years to come. Barring any setbacks, he should be ready to go for the 2027 season.

The Blue Jays were swept by the Orioles in a three-game series this week which led to their postseason elimination. Wednesday was especially forgettable for the American League East team, as they were defeated by the O's 4-2 in both games of a doubleheader. The first defeat was the one that sealed their elimination from playoff contention.

Toronto will attempt to finish the season strong during an upcoming weekend series at home against the Cincinnati Reds. The series will begin on Friday night at 7:07 PM ET.
