The Atlanta Braves handled business against the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL Wild Card, and now they have a date against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS. It's safe to say that the Dodgers are the title favorites, and they're on a mission to 3-peat, which would be something no team has ever been able to do in MLB.
The Braves know that, in order to be the best, you have to beat the best, and manager Walt Weiss explained the matchup perfectly.
“You call David and Goliath and all that stuff, but you've got to go through the Dodgers if you want to get to the top of the mountain. You've got to go through them at some point. So it's going to be a great challenge for us,” Weiss said via Bob Nightengale on X, formerly Twitter.
Article Continues BelowThe Braves have what they need in order to defeat the Dodgers, but it won't be easy. The pitching will be the key to their success, and after seeing what Chris Sale did in Game 3 against the Phillies, they have a real advantage. Speaking of Sale, when asked whether he would start in Game 2 of the NLDS, Weiss said that it's on the table, but it seems to be unlikely.
“We’re gonna err on the side of giving him (time to rest) if it’s even close,” Weiss said.
That might be the best move for the Braves so Sale can get as much rest as he needs, because there's a chance this series goes to Game 5.
